Card Legality

Decks must contain cards that were printed in the following sets:

You may play with reprints of cards from these sets, including foil and promotional printings.

Deck Construction

Decklist construction rules follow modern rules:

Format and Card Rulings

Old School uses the current Magic rules, with two exceptions:

Mana Burn

Old School continues to use the concept of Mana Burn. The following rule applies to all games:

When a step or phase ends, any unused mana left in a player’s mana pool is lost. That player loses 1 life for each 1 mana lost this way. This is called mana burn. Mana burn is loss of life, not damage, so it can’t be prevented or altered by effects that affect damage. This game action doesn’t use the stack.

Chaos Orb

Chaos Orb is legal in Old School, with specific errata:

Chaos Orb {2}
Artifact
{1}, {T}: Choose a nontoken permanent on the battlefield. If Chaos Orb is on the battlefield, flip Chaos Orb onto the battlefield from a height of at least one foot. If Chaos Orb turns over completely at least once during the flip and rests touching the chosen permanent, destroy that permanent. Then destroy Chaos Orb.

Additional Ruling: Once a permanent has been chosen, it may be physically moved in order for the controller of Chaos Orb to have an unobstructed attempt on the permanent.
